Garden to Gardens

We all know how important supporting your local community is!
Well there is a company in South Florida that is doing just that called Garden to Gardens.

Garden to Gardens "mission is to promote, create and build gardens of abundance in a sustainable, veganic-organic, self-productive fashion." Garden to Gardens enables people to create food sovereignty right in their own backyard. The importance of replenishing biodiversity is something that should be considered with the utmost priority. Garden to Gardens evaluates all aspects of how its operations impact the planet.  I believe this compassion remains true in their results. Moreover, as mentioned in the mission statement; they implement many various sustainable methods in their designs."In creation, When one gives back to the earth in return earth provides abundance." This is one of the many philosophies conveyed by Garden to Gardens. In South Florida I think many people can benefit from rare services like this. I encourage everyone to contact Garden to Gardens to get started on being self reliant. Grow food, save money, and save the planet!

Gulf Oil spill

As we all know by now about the BP gulf oil spill and its disastrous consequences it can and will have on our  ocean , wildlife , ecosystems, and even humans.
Personally I never approved of offshore drilling in the first place, a victory would of been tremendous in stopping this madness from occuring today but we cannot look back. There are some good solutions out there to clean the oil up, without going into my opinion on why I think this is happening and blog on about the negative aspects this is creating, I say we need to move forward with all possible solutions !
so I present one I came across which makes sense.

Eat Local - What foods are in season?

I have located a food finder from National resource defense council "NRDC" which I would like to share.
This search allows you to look-up what fruits and vegetables are in season in your state.
this is a very useful resource, we all should try to eat local and organic as much as we possibly can!

By purchasing local foods in-season, you eliminate the environmental damage caused by shipping foods thousands of miles, your food dollar goes directly to the farmer, build local communities, partially fights global poverty and famine, and your family will be able to enjoy the health benefits of eating fresh, unprocessed fruits and vegetables. Buying seasonal produce also provides an exciting opportunity to try new foods and to experiment with seasonal recipes. And it simply tastes better!

What I really like about this Local food finder is the choice to choose different spans of the month (ex. early may, late may). I challenge everyone to start doing this if you already have not! go for it...

Bold Native 2010

INFO - Upcoming movie!! This summer!
Denis Hennelly, USA, English, 2010, ...
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1328908/
http://boldnative.com/
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Bold-Native/162792945925?ref=ts
http://twitter.com/BOLDNATIVE

As mentioned on their website Bold Native is the culmination of almost ten years of work by literally hundreds of people.  It was conceived in the summer of 2001. Bold Native is a fiction feature film. Charlie Cranehill, an animal liberator wanted by the United States government for domestic terrorism, emerges from the underground to coordinate a nationwide action as his estranged CEO father tries to find him before the FBI does. The film simultaneously follows a young woman who works for an animal welfare organization fighting within the system to establish more humane treatment of farmed animals. From abolitionists to welfarists, Bold Native takes on the issue of modern animal use and exploitation from several angles within the context of a road movie adventure story.

The filmmakers’ background in documentary informed the creative approach to Bold Native. Self-financed and shot with a four person team in real-world locations, sometimes using real activists, lawyers, and formerly imprisoned animal liberators, the film weaves an intricate tale of one of the most important issues facing America and the world morally and ecologically – the impact and consequences of industrialized animal use. And with a character who faces prosecution and potential lifetime imprisonment under the recently passed Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act (AETA) for property crimes currently considered terrorism, the film also illuminates the danger of corporate interests influencing the law in a post-9/11 world.

Who is the Bold Native? Find out this summer.

World Peace Diet

I want to recommend to check out "Living In Harmony With All Life" this is great CD by Dr. Will Tuttle.I may write separately about this CD in the future ,
but go HERE to get a copy.

The World Peace Diet is Dr.Will Tuttles book.
I have listened to Dr.Will Tuttles speeches, and had the opportunity to participate in a chat where he was a guest. The Philosophy of the world peace diet could not be more any more precise!

A description from the World Peace Diet page sums up really how I think about the methodology it
advocates.

"
The World Peace Diet has been called one of the most important books of the 21st century: the foundation of a new society based on the truth of the interconnectedness of all life. It is the first book to make explicit the invisible connections between our culture, our food, and the source of our broad range of problems—and the way to a positive transformation in our individual and collective lives.
The World Peace Diet is an award - winning book. If you want to understand the big picture of our culture and why we have the unyielding dilemmas we face, and how we can solve them, this book is for you. "

You can become a part of the World peace diet and
facilitate a class or book study group, through the World peace diet's page join the MYSPACE page, FACEBOOK page, TWITTER page, or Dr.Will's Blog.
so get involved!!

All the work I have heard and reviewed thus far is filled with inspiration and gives one a chance to look at themselves and their dietary choices, cultural indoctrination, intelligence, evolution , and more which connects you to take a look not just at your impact but on all life and this planet.

The Cove

So I just finished watching the documentary The Cove.
A first film by Louie Psihoyos who is regarded
as one of the top photographers in the world.
Louie Psihoyos along with Jim Clark started The Oceanic Preservation Society (OPS), in 2005. The non-profit organization provides an exclusive lens for the public and media to observe the beauty as well as the destruction of the oceans, while motivating change.

The Film takes you on an inside look on the Japan Dolphin slaughtering, which takes place in Taiji,Japan every year ,where they needlessly kill 23,000 dolphins!
this film is a must watch!
The film also follows marine activist Richard O'Barry a passionate man looking to end this dolphin slaughter. "O'Barry has worked both sides of the dolphin street, the first 10 years with the dolphin captivity industry, the past 38 against it."

The Slaughter in Japan that takes place in Taiji is done in secret , most Japanese are unaware of the process and the cruel, harmful, killing that is going on.
the film covers the whole spectrum from why they should not be slaughtered ,to its illegal and immoral practice,to its health impacts!

This Must be stopped, it left me with a strong impression of anger
and sadness. Its atrocious that we as humans can allow something to happen like this, to condone any slaughter, support or participate in such acts is really mindless, ignorant, and plainly just foolish actions. Such practices weaken the human species, not just by degrading our environment stripping it bare, but disease and medical problems in astronomical proportions among us.

I personally hope the mission engaged by these caring individuals working to end the madness in the cove comes to an end! it is up to each and every one of us to take responsibility and voice our opinion to government officials, and Japanese government to let them know that this is NOT OKAY, boycott live dolphin and marine shows,go green, stop consuming seafood, go vegan, Please go and support this film in any way you are able!
I recommend to check it out
